Eisner 2021 : James Tynion IV, Jimmy Olsen et Superman Smashes the Klan récompensés

Les Eisner Awards 2021 ont eu lieu cette nuit à la Comic-Con@Home et quelques récompenses concernent des publications DC.

Tynion IV, Jimmy Olsen et Superman

Tom King, Mitch Gerads et Evan Shaner n’ont rien remporté avec leur série Strange Adventures, mais d’autres séries ont plu au jury. Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen de Matt Fraction et Steve Lieber, que l’on ne cessera de vous recommander, a été élu meilleure série limitée et meilleure publication humoristique. Gene Luen Yang a fait un doublé en remportant la meilleure publication pour enfants de 13-17 ans avec Dragon Hoops (First Second/MacMillan) et la meilleure publication pour enfants de 9-12 ans avec Superman Smashes the Klan chez DC, aux côtés du dessinateur Gurihiru. Ce récit a aussi remporté la catégorie de la meilleure adaptation d’un autre médium.

Pourtant, ce n’est ni Fraction, ni Yang qui sera élu meilleur scénariste de l’année, mais bien James Tynion IV pour Batman, mais surtout (il faut l’avouer) pour Something Is Killing the Children et Wynd chez BOOM! et Department of Truth chez Image. C’est d’autant plus impressionnant de remporter ce prix avec une concurrence pareille (Fraction, Brubaker, Hickman, Lemire et Zdarsky), mais Tynion IV nous a fait une année dantesque pour obtenir cette première récompense, et il risque d’être aussi nommé l’année prochaine à ce rythme (on pense notamment à The Nice House on the Lake).

Parmi les autres vainqueurs hors DC, on notera une victoire de Junji Ito dans les catégories meilleur scénariste/artiste et meilleure édition US d’une production internationale, mais aussi la victoire du duo Brubaker/Phillips avec Pulp pour le meilleur album graphique.
